Connecting Printer in Ubuntu
Hi all,
After deciding to clean the trojans and worms off my hard drive, i formatted it and installed ubuntu, although i intend to install windows later, i would not install it at all if i could get my printer working. It is a Brother MFC 465-CN, but the option to add new printers under System>Administration>Printing does not have a driver for my printer. I have all the original discs, and am not too great with linux, so please keep things as simple as possible.
Thanks

Welcome to the forums!
According to OpenPrinting.org, you printer works "mostly" under Linux. Check this page for some information that might help you to get it going:
OpenPrinting database - Printer: Brother MFC-465-cnoz

On the brother support site there are drivers for Printing (lpr & cups), Fax (lpr & cups) and scanning. Assuming your connecting via USB. I have one of the and it works perfectly.

Okay, how is the printer being served? What's the OS on the server (if connected that way)?
If Windows: Win2K + has the option of "Unix Print Services" driver, which is more or less a pdf print driver with printer redirection (print to file or existing print driver). With that shared, you can set up a linux client to point to it as a generic postscript printer, and have it redirect to your brother.

[QUOTE=karrissaan;679605]Sorry, but the printer is connected over a wireless network.[/QUOTE
Have used the print part via the network (was playing/testing it), that works as well (AppSocect/HP jet Direct). The faxing and scanning are supposed to work as well but have not tried them (there is a network scan/fax driver - like I said never tried it myself), I think you have to run a binary on the client side.In a world without walls and fences, who needs Windows and Gates?
