Flash sound again, hitting head on brick wall.
Standard video but no sound with flash only. Not standard setup.
Here's the setup:
Xubuntu 8.04
Firefox 3.0.6
Adobe Flash 9 R48
Alsa 1.0.16-0ub
Hardware
nVidia Riva TNT2 (16 MB)
Ensoniq ES1370 AudioPCI
450MHz Processor
512MB RAM
What I think I know it's not:
PulseAudio issue - it's not installed
Flash ver, 10 had same problem (opting for nine though for old CPU)
~/.asoundrc* files - removed to no avail.
Unseen oss - aoss and oss alsa compatibility packages installed (and verified the existence of /dev/dsp), neither helped.
Other things I've tried:
Pulsing out, including updated patched server, libflashsupport, flash 10, whole 9 yards. After this not only failed to fix flash but broke a bunch of other apps audio, I reverted back to pure ALSA. All other audio problems fixed, it's down to flash now.
Looking for audio options in Firefox 3. It existed in firefox 2 (/etc/firefox/firefoxrc), but not in Firefox 3, the /etc/firefox-3.0 directory has subdirs with javascript type setting files, beyond me. This is my friend's computer, she'll kill me if I downgrade her firefox.
Google has not been my friend on this one, everyone blames pulse, but that's not the issue here (at least it shouldn't).. Does anybody else have any ideas?

I have no problems at all using pulseaudio I think I started using it with 8.10 now using 9.04 beta1. The only problem that I was having on 8.10 is that Audacity didn't work with pulseaudio, but now even it work perfectly with their new version.

I already went that route. PulseAudio in Ubuntu has too many loose ends and I don't get enough time on that computer to chase them all down.
Flash 9 worked fine in SuSE without Pulse (I upgraded to 10 on one of those computers for stability, still works fine). Keep in mind also this computer doesn't have the processing power for all the latest and greatest. I'm sure this can be done pure ALSA, I think it's more firefox 3 related than anything else (the SuSE setups are both using FF 2).

I sure do hate to hear that. It is a part of the system in 9.04.

Are you using the official flash plugin or the repo version? I usually have the best luck with official releases.

I'll give you the details when I can get exclusive access to that system for a couple minutes. What's your idea?

I'm wondering if the installer actually created the symlink to your plugins folder. You *should* have libflashplayer symlinked in the plugins folder.

Something else I found.
Try installing the alsa-oss package and see if this helps.I do not respond to private messages asking for Linux help, Please keep it on the forums only.
