Is there anyone using the Opera browser in their 8.04 os?

I do not see the Opera browser in the symantic package manager. Are there any LinuxForum members using the Opera browser in their 8.04 os? Does Opera overwhelm Ubuntu like it did suse 10? Are there any pros and/or cons to using opera in Ubuntu? Thanks!!

I use it once in awhile. I've never noticed it overwhelming my system but I've also never gotten flash to work correctly in it (always irritates me, they should really make an easier way to get it to function).

I use it only when Firefox refuses to work for some things -- some sites that have logins get screwed up in firefox...not sure why, but I know my friends bank never let him log in from firefox but opera was fine.

    Thanks Jmadero!

I almost never use the Firefox browser. I use Seamonkey most of the time, Konqueror some of the time, and Epiphany for my website. I installed galeon but I have yet to use it.

When i first got into Linux with Suse 10 I really liked using the Opera browser. My mistake was eventually taking Opera's prompt for an upgrade and Opera took over my computer by saving everything as an Opera file. I think there was also a mention of paying a fee to have something function correctly in Opera. I had to purge it from my computer as best i could.

I like your signature. Do you know whose quote that is?

    Hello cousinlucky, good morning.

You can download the Opera browser here --> Opera Browser

I'm using Opera and Firefox browsers here. Opera seems to be Ok. Nothings strange happen in my Opera browser yet for 1 month now.

    Take care and God bless.

In my synaptic package manager thr list goes from " openwsman to ophcrack " without opera.

I was informed though that I could get it through: sudo apt-get install opera

Are you finding any quirks in Opera, Rokytnji?

Nope. But since I installed back when I first got this desktop and loaded Ubuntu 8.04 on it, I've upgraded it to the latest stable version available which is 9.6 I think. I watch movies and everything with it. I have more problems with firefox crashing lately than I do with Opera watching flash videos ever since I upgraded to Flash player 10.

I have to admit I miss using Opera. I been told that if it bothers me that I can use sudo apt-get remove opera to get rid of it. I really do like Ubuntu 8.04 a whole lot better than suse 10. I've been six weeks without windows xp and I do not miss it at all.

Thanks for the link to Opera the sudo command in the terminal did not work.

Opera was in my package manager at one time, but has somehow disappeared from the list. I installed it a while back from the package manager (that's how I know it was in the list.). However, I am unable to see the menu words when running Opera in Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid). This is disappointing to me, since I really like Opera. I think the problem is related somehow to Compiz, but I'm not sure. I just end up using Firefox (and that's OK).
However, I use Opera in other OS's (Puppy 4.13 NOP, Tiny Core, Dreamlinux) and I love it. The features of Opera are better than anything else available (to my knowledge). It is so easy to use, and fast too.

I'm using Opera in 8.10. Like someone else mentioned, there are a few plug-ins (such as LogMeIn) that just don't want to work in Firefox. Opera works for those. I don't use it most of the time though so I can't comment on its resource usage. It's just a backup for stubborn websites.

And I downloaded it from their site, rather than Synaptic.
