Wlan question
On a reboot (or initial boot up), the process stalls at the network stage. This is because when I shut down the computer, my system is not saving my essid.
In other words, every time I reboot or otherwise start my computer, I have to re-enter my essid info with the command:
sudo iwconfig wlan0 essid "My Network Name"
Without doing this, the essid defaults to the last four digits of the mac address. Isn't there a way to insure that Ubuntu remembers the essid so I don't have to set it up each time I turn on my computer?
I'm using 8.10 Intrepid Ibex.

Are you using NetworkManager to connect? It can be accessed by the icon, usually found next to the Date/Time in the taskbar. It should save passwords in something called the Keyring manager. The Keyring manager will also need a password set up.
If you right-click, select the properties to edit the connections. Left-click to see available networks.Paul

I do not have Network Manager, nor Wi-fi radar... nothing like that. Network Manager went away when I upgraded to 8.10. All I am doing is going to System > Preferences > Network Configuration. That's where I had initially put in my WEP Key, network name, etc... Those things do stay in the Network Configurations though.
