    Wireless again...

Hi! I had installed Ubuntu Linux om my Dell Inspiron 1501 a couple of yrs ago but abandoned it because I was unable to get the wireless running.
I have time on my hands due to unemployment and decided to give it a whirl.
I'm running the Ubuntu 8.1 and have a Broadcom BCM 4311 wireless card intsalled.
I've tried all the generic options on the help pages and NOTHING works.
Any happy penguins out there with help?

See this thread: http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/deb...-newcomer.html Everything is basically applicable to Ubuntu as well, except the b43-fwcutter package is located here: Ubuntu -- Details of package b43-fwcutter in intrepid I'm not sure if you need to edit your sources.list to download it via apt or synaptic.

You basically just need to install the firmware for the card. You should be able to do this using apt.
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter
When you are asked "Fetch and install firmware?" answer "Yes" (press enter).

if you can get a wired connection, do that and then just go to system->adminstration->hardware drivers. Find the broadcom one in the list and install it, then restart
    Bodhi 1.3 & Bodhi 1.4 using E17
Dell Studio 17, Intel Graphics card, 4 gigs of RAM, E17

    Need update info

Due to a system crash, I lost all my original Ubuntu files. I am able to install v8.1 but the b43 drivers won't work and i can't find them anywhere. Anyone still out there? Alan

Try here for the .deb package.

    Ubuntu -- Package Download Selection -- b43-fwcutter_011-1_i386.deb

    Hope this helps you out.
