Slow shutdown with no output
Hey there forums!
I've got a laptop that is currently running Intrepid, and for about a month or so I've been experiencing incredibly slow shutdowns.
It basically goes like this:
I press the "gnome-shutdown-button-in-the-top-right-corner"-thing and get the Ubuntu logo and the bootup/shutdown bar going. This bar fills up (or drains depending on how you see it) at a speed I'd expect of the laptop.
When that's done however the screen goes black and decides to stay that way for something like 40 seconds or more before the computer actually shuts down (I think I timed it once, but I don't quite remember the result).
The thing that complicates it all is that when using nVidias proprietary driver I get X on F7, but all tty's on F1-F6 are "undisplayable" (I get a black screen, and it stays that way).
This has the irritating side effect that where I would normally have seen some output on what could cause the slow shutdown, I now have a black screen until the machine goes down.
The only lead I can give is that during one shutdown the screen decided to actually display some output instead of going totally black after the bar. The text only flashed briefly but I'm quite sure I read something that I concluded was printed out after a timeout of some sort. Vague, I know, but that's the best I can give.
If any additional info is needed, I'll try to supply you with it ASAP.

Normally X displays only in ALT-F7 console only. And in the rest ALT-Fx the login console is there.
