OK. I have left windoze for good. I have ubuntu on my desktop. The whole thing. Good installation. No probs. I can even print with my canon using gutenprint 5.23. Also print wirelessly from Macbookpro using same. Heres the only fly in the ointment.
I have an external WD hardrive connected to my desktop. When I try to view it, I see its name(My Book) but if i dbl click it says.."original item cant be found". This is odd because it allows me to see the Root dir, and they both have the same permissions. ALSO I have logon difficuties. I an oly logon as guest. This is odd because my wife s desktop(Vista)(same workgroup) will allow me to enter name and password. My userid is wth and password is zzzzzz. The computers name is xps. Do I have to put a "~" after my userid or a "$" or enter userid like this wth@xps? I try them, it doesnt reject them, but doesnt really accept them either. I have "sharing" enabled everywhere. At least I can print. That had been the big issue. But I would like to know if its just some simple little thing. Maybe unplug HD..plug it back in?
