No, I didn't. I don't have time to chase down the info, when it should be provided along with the help request. But thank you very much for posting the information.

Your system is loading the b43 driver, plus the associated drivers:
    Code:
    Module Size Used by
    rfkill_input 12800 0
    b43 131612 0
    mac80211 217080 1 b43
    cfg80211 38032 1 mac80211
    ssb 41220 1 b43
Like I mentioned, it is looking for the firmware.
    Code:
    [ 28.236064] b43 ssb0:0: firmware: requesting b43/ucode5.fw
    [ 28.298090] b43-phy0 ERROR: Firmware file "b43/ucode5.fw" not found
[ 28.298098] b43-phy0 ERROR: You must go to b43 - Linux Wireless and download the latest firmware (version 4).
There are several ways to install the firmware, first try using apt. When you install the firmware extraction program, b43-fwcutter, I believe that it will ask you if you want to install the firmware. Tell it YES, and see if that gets the wireless working. If not, post back and we can try another way.

OOPS! I forgot to post the apt command to install it.
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter

I started following your instructions here before you replied:
    b43 - Linux Wireless

I had to download the packages on this (windows computer) and put them on a thumb drive. Made a folder under "places" called temp and executed these commands:

    tar xjf b43-fwcutter-011.tar.bz2
    cd b43-fwcutter-011
    make
    cd ..

Doing that created 11 files which I'm sure you know what they are.. However, now I don't know what to do with the next export FIRMWARE_INSTALL_DIR="/lib/firmware"
command. This is my first day ever using Linux

I think it worked. Is it supposed to extract a bunch of files after this command:

    sudo ../../b43-fwcutter-011/b43-fwcutter -w "$FIRMWARE_INSTALL_DIR" wl_apsta_mimo.o

    ?

If so, then does that mean I'm finished?

No good. I ran the dmesg command again and see that it still says not found for b43/ucode5.fw

So I must have done something wrong.

    Edit:

Well, nosing around using the file browser, under the "File System", there is a folder called b43 but it's empty. There's also a folder under /lib/firmware called b43 but it too is empty. When I try to open those folders, it says I can't because I don't have permission..

    Thumbs down

I got the laptop hooked up to a wired connection to the internet and then executed all the commands in the two boxes without error at this link:

    b43 - Linux Wireless

What am I supposed to do now? The instructions just end after those two sets of commands.......

Why didn't you try the method that I suggested, using apt? I'll post it one more time, in case you missed it.

When you install b43-fwcutter in Ubuntu, using apt, it will ask if you want to install the firmware too. Answer YES, of course. You then may need to reboot.
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter
Those instructions that you are trying to follow, well, they suck. That is why I didn't refer you too it. For more info on a command, use the --help option.
    Code:
    b43-fwcutter --help
In this case, you want to give the path to the version of b43-fwcutter, the -w switch and the path to where you want it to go (/lib/firmware/b43), then the entire path to the downloaded firmware file.

If you look closely at the error, it is looking for the firmware in folder named "b43". You will first need to create that folder.
    Code:
    sudo mkdir /lib/firmware/b43
If that doesn't work, you may need to make the folder inside of the kernel version folder.
    Code:
    sudo mkdir /lib/firmware/2.6.28-11-generic/b43
Then extact the firmware to that folder. Make sure that you have the correct kernel folder name.

As for those instructions you are following. If you look above them, a few paragraphs, you would have found this:
Some distributions have special methods for installing the firmware. In general these consist of a special command entered at a terminal. Because the proprietary driver containing the firmware cannot be included in the distribution, you will need a working connection to the Internet. Please post details for distros that are missed at bcm43xx-dev@lists.berlios.de .

    1. openSUSE 11.0 and 11.1 use the following command:
      • sudo /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware

    2. in latest versions of Ubuntu (all flavors) and Debian just need to install the b43-fwcutter package:
      • sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter
        • when you are asked "Fetch and install firmware?" answer "Yes" (just press "Enter)
