    5.1 upgrade help

    i have an old sony vaio that was made for windows ME and i can't figure out how to upgrade to ubuntu 6.1 from 5.1 because the upgrader doesn't work because it is older than 18 months.
    Can someone please help?

    I'm not sure if Ubuntu has repositories archived going that far back, but even if they do, it would be much much easier to download the latest release and do a clean install. (Assuming you have at least 512 MB RAM.)

    you should just download the newest version, burn it to a cd, and do a fresh install, after you backup any important data, unless your /home is on separate partition

    I totally agree with the above 2 posts. Why go into the "trouble" of updating, just to get an unsupported and seriously outdated version? Just wait until April 23, when version 9.04 is released and do a fresh install.
