    Is UBUNTU 8.10 Server a command line only environment?

    New to the Ubuntu distro, thought to check out the server version before getting too conforatble and customizing things.

    By default yes it is, which is typically what you want on a server. There is nothing to stop you installing a gui though.

    Yes. Desktop Environment is not pre-installed in Server Edition of Ubuntu.
    It really easy to install any DE in Server.
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
    Above code will install complete Ubuntu Desktop Environment ( 600+ MB download ).
    It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
