    Do I need drivers?

I installed Ubuntu 9.04 64 bit on my computer and everything appears to work.

There is a drivers section which claims I have no 'proprietary' drivers installed.

What I would like to know is if the system needs drivers for maximum performance.

I notice very few screen resolutions are available and those that are available appear to be awkward choices.

For instance I want to get an LCD at some point, I have digital video output on my board and I would need set the system resolution to the native resolution of the LCD to avoid the monitor reinterpolating the pixels and losing detail.

My video chip is GMA X4500HD on a FOXCONN G45M-S motherboard.

    TIA

If the screen resolutions are a bit limiting - chances are that the configuration program couldn't find a decent match at the time of installation for your graphics card, and opted for a "fits all Standards" "VESA" mode.

Do a google for xorg-video-intel, I think that should provide the necessary Ubuntu packages that you may need to install. Bare in mind, I have never used Ubuntu, and so my information may be misleading. Either way - your graphics card is supported
