In case renaming .mozilla doesn't work, replace "intel" with "vesa" in xorg.conf file.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

And then restart X by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Backspace. Remember to save any work forst though - you will get no warning

If the problem only happens with the data card, try un-installing it and seeing if the error goes away

The problem occuring in such a sporadic manner, I couldn't pinpoint yet what actually is behind it. Like, yesterday I kept the computer on for the whole night, with firefox, ktorrent, thunderbird running, but it didn't froze.

I didn't change that to intel yet. Because, (may be I'm so dumb to see the reason) I don't understand why the xorg.conf that was working fine for more than a year need to be changed now.

By uninstalling do you mean removing the data card from usb? because I just plug the data card and call wvdial to connect. There's nothing to uninstall as such.

    Thanks

I'm sorry, but I agree with the person who said you should upgrade to a more recent Ubuntu version. X was going through some major changes around that time and I had issues in both Debian and Ubuntu similar to yours. If you're worried about upgrading, clean installs, or whatever, you might find my howto here useful.

Well, still, every now and then my kubuntu 7.10 is freezing, with or without firefox running, superkaramba desktop theme on or off, only one thing constant, the internet connection is on every time, it froze. I'm sticking my dmesg here, if you experts can make something out of it. I don't know how to :
