Kubuntu is stuck after the first 5 secons at startup.

I got Kubuntu kde 4.1 (the latest version 8.10) yesterday I installed pidgin (a messinger program). Now today I started my computer back up, kubuntu starts perfectly but when pidgin wants to startup everything blocks, nothing I can do except moving the mouse...
(I googled already a few sites, they all say remove it from the autostart map but pidgin isn't in the folder...)

some one got an idea what I can do to fix this?
    thx

    edit:
removed pidgin and kubuntu was still stuck.

I'm not certain, but it might be worth looking in the folder /etc/rc.d (and its sub-folders) for anything pidgin-related. (Scripts in that folder are run on start-up, so it might be that this is what causes pidgin to be loaded).

    No such folder exists...
isn't there a way to tell kubuntu to start nothing?

Open System Settings, click the Advanced tab, there is a selection for Autostart.

Rereading your post, what's more likely is that you have pidgin in the saved session. Under that Advanced Tab, there is also a selection for Session Management. Open that, and select "Start with an Empty Session".

that would be the perfect solution when kubuntu was still runnning but kubuntu freezes when I start up becouse pidgin blocks when it starts after kubuntu starts (becouse of the auto start)

the only way I can fix this is via terminal, but I got no idea how I can find the map of pidgin nor the autostart folder(one that exists)...

some one else got an idea?

Never done this, but you want a idea heres one. If me, I would boot up a live cd. Mount my Kubuntu files in live mode. Search for any thing related to pidgin and delete it till it starts on its own.

Just remove pidgin. Re-install it later if you want it, though Kopete is a fine instant messenger client.

    Code:
    sudo apt-get remove pidgin
If you want to locate things pidgin related on your system do
    Code:
    sudo updatedb
    locate pidgin
The saved session files are somewhere in the hidden files in your home directory. Not at my linux box, and I don't quite remember, but it's in ~/.kde4/ or one of those I think.

its to mutch work with the live cd cuz you need to change all te rights off every map.

I uninstalled it like reed9 said, worked perfectly thx!

after that I rebooted and logged in in kubuntu it was still stuck so problem is still the same... (looked like pidgin wasn't the problem)

I used ps -A to see all my processes and ksmserver = <defunct>

    is this normal?
any one got an idea what else could be wrong?

    Take a look in :

    /etc/xdg/autostart/

(This one shoulde be gnomem only but you never know)
    /usr/share/gnome/autostart

Also (it might be different for kde4)
    ~/.kde/Autostart
In a world without walls and fences, who needs Windows and Gates?
