KMAIL unable to download all messages from GMAIL

Dear all,
I am using KUBUNTU 8.10. I configured my kmail today with GMAIL and the messaes were downloaded from gmail. However, on close scrutiny I saw that all messages which were in the INBOX till Dec 08 were only downloaded and messages which I have recived today have been also downloaded. BUT all messages that are in the INBOX and which have been received this year before today have not been downloaded.
Help is solicited for the same

Check your settings in Gmail, there is an option to set a threshold on what dates will be downloaded (to prevent unneeded or unwanted mails downloading). I think by default it's set to the date you enabled POP/IMAP...would you have set this up originally in December 08?

Thanx Rodney for a quick reply... but I setup the KMAIL only yesterday. Secondly I do not know as to how to reach the option to change the threshold settings.
Could you be a little more elaborate

Suggestion

I don't specifically know about the gMail plug, but with my hotmail downloads, only mesages marked as unread get downloaded; I think that's for the "Leave messages on Server" pop option. Make sure any messages you want to get are marked as unread on the gMail server..
