    Question User name variable

    I am running Mint and I would like to setup my secondary hard drive but I want to mount the two partitions to my video and music folders, and I would like them to be available on all of my accounts, so I need to know what the USER variable is so that I am not stuck with the partitions stuck on one account. An should the variable be the same on all distros?

    You just need to mount the drives with the right GID values and make sure that all the users you want to access the drive are part of that group.
