2.5" HDD enclosures
I am Running Ubuntu 8.10 on a HP Compaq NC6320 Laptop!
I have a spare 60Gg 2.5" hard drive from my old laptop and was wondering if the drive would automatically appear on my desktop when plugged in via USB like this one: USB Laptop Hard Drive Cases, Caddy's & Enclosures - USBNow.co.uk.
Also another question, i downloaded a program called Driftnet from synaptic manager and it is in my applications/internet menu but does nothing when i try and run the program???

Hi and Welcome !
Have you tried to plug-in Drive? Its icon should appear at Desktop by default on plugging-in.
Execute driftnet command in Terminal and post error message here, if any.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Hi, i have not bought the enclosure yet and was just wondering if it would work before buying.
As for driftnet this is what comes up after typing it into terminal:
deejay@deejay:~$ driftnet
driftnet: pcap_lookupdev: no suitable device found
driftnet: try specifying an interface with -i
deejay@deejay:~$

I have a 2.5 inch USB drive/enclosure that I use with Linux all the time and no issues to report. I've never used that particular model enclosure, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work.
