    Problems with gedit

i was having issues with alsa and my mic. When i found the solution one step was to reconfigure the file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base with gedit. It opened fine and i added the necessary files, but when i tried to save it an error message popped up. It said The File /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base does not exist and cannot be saved.

This is extremely confusing to me as the file clearly exists because i opened it, i only cannot save the changes i have made to the file.

    Any thoughts?

sorry about the picture, im still a little new at linux.

The picture is a little hard to read, but if I'm seeing it correctly, you opened and tried to write to /etc/modrobe.d rather than /etc/modprobe.d

    nice catch,
that was an easy fix to an dumb mistake.
One more thing, would you know why the code sudo rm /etc/asound.* results with no file exists?

    help is much appreciated,

Aside from the apparent answer that no such files exist on your system? I would open up your filemanager to /etc and see if any such files are there. If not, I guess no worries since you were trying to remove them anyway. What is the guide you're following?

    Thanks,
I am trying to enable my internal mic using this guide: ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-362980.html

I found a guy and PM'd him. he has the same specs.
Acer Aspire 5100 running hardy 64 bits lshw states
    description: Audio device
product: IXP SB4x0 High Definition Audio Controller
    vendor: ATI Technologies Inc
    physical id: 14.2
    bus info: pci@0000:00:14.2
    version: 01
    width: 64 bits
    clock: 33MHz
    capabilities: pm msi bus_master cap_list
    configuration: driver=HDA Intel latency=64 module=snd_hda_intel

Now im finally past the steps and no change with the mic, but crackling static noise coming from the speakers. I am beggining to wonder if this is worth rocking the boat over?
