    Several issues

My GPU is compatible with 8.10, yet I cannot download the drivers for it. I've tried sudo apt-get install and even envyng, but neither is working. ALso, when I tried to download Helix through the S.P.M today, I got the error message:

E: Could not lock /var/cache/apt/archives/lock- open (11 Resource Temporarily Unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the download directory

    It was working fine yesterday....

Also, when I go to System-Administration-Hardware Drivers, there is a lock in the upper right hand corner of the icon, and I can't enable the driver. Could that be part of my problem? Any ideas on how to fix these issues?

My GPU is an ATI Radeon HD 4850 so you know. Thanks for whatever help can be provided.

You are running these applications as the root user, because it is usually set up so that only root can access such things.

    So...why can't I access them?

Well the other reason is because the apt program is already running, and you're trying to access the file twice.

I'm more familiar with RPMs however, so I could be wrong.

Well, the package issue cleared itself up.. I guess there was just a glitch, cause its working now... computers sure are silly sometimes.

I'm sure the programs aren't already running... and as far as I know I have permission to access them. The problem I have now is downloading the drivers. If I use envyng, it freezes halfway through and I have to force quit.

Your GPU will work much better in Ubuntu 9.04, so ditch Intrepid and install Jaunty.

I didn't even realize there was a new version out....

Just looked at it. Certainly looks promising, but I think I'd better wait until I see some threads on how it works with 3G.

Try running the Live CD first and see how well it supports your hardware, 3G, USB devices, etc.
