I'm very new to this and just learning. I'm installing R-2.9.0 and "make" has been runnung 2.5 hours now. I know my computer is slow, but is this typical? Is "make check" and "make install" going to take this long?

It's quite intensive and can sometimes take ages, especially with sub-directories. Does it appear to be working away still? If so, don't worry about it.

it depends on size of software you are trying to compile and how fast your computer is, if it is large software, and slow computer, it will be a long compile time
