Are you trying to setup dual monitors?
because, as far as I know every monitor is external(except for laptop)
What disto and graphics card you are using?

if you are using nvidia card
sudo apt-get install nvidia-settings
then
nvidia-settings
you can set it up easily.
If not system->preferences->DisplayBodhi 1.3 & Bodhi 1.4 using E17
Dell Studio 17, Intel Graphics card, 4 gigs of RAM, E17

thanks guys all sorted, just wish i knew how to fix this graphic driver problem that is affecting loads of people on Jaunty
