    CD directory XMMS

I'm fairly new to Linux, and just downloaded XMMS.

    1. `cd' to the directory containing the package's source code and type
`./configure' to configure the package for your system. If you're
using `csh' on an old version of System V, you might need to type
`sh ./configure' instead to prevent `csh' from trying to execute
    `configure' itself.

I did do the configure, but it got all blank and "back to basics". No goings for making the file.

Got some help for a newbie?

    Hi and Welome !

If your machine has internet access then I would suggest you install packages through Package Manager. Look for Synaptic or Adept Package Manager in Administrative Menu. Just click on Reload button and refresh package list. Search for Package you want to install, Mark it for installation and click Apply button.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
