Extract firefox-3.0.9.tar.gz. Double click on firefox file inside extracted FireFox folder. New version of Firefox will pop.
Which version of Firefox is available in sources?It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

You are using ubuntu, you can easily upgrade the firefox using apt-get or synaptic.

i wanna the new version to be the default one, so when i hit Firefox from the menu or whereever, it starts the new one,and i have 3.0.3

You can create a symlink of new firefox ( inside Extracted firefox folder ) file on Desktop or in Menu.
Or
Upgrade firefox only.
Code:sudo apt-get upgrade firefox
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
