    [SOLVED] Ubuntu Install Problem (busybox)

I have yesterday and today trying to figure out why I can't install Ubuntu!

I have tried to install multiple versions, and always come out with a different problem.

Computer is an HP Pavilion w/ 2gb ram, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor and NVIDIA 7600GT video card.

Here's a list of the ones I have tried, and the problem('s) accompanying them.

9.04 Desktop AMD64- This stops me at busybox everytime. Even in safe graphcs mode. I tried the i386 version and still no worky.

8.10 Desktop AMD64- Using this version lets me get past busybox once every couple tries. It will let me install up until about 15% into the disc partitioner, then crashes.

8.10 Alternative AMD64 I can get much farther into the install, but it alwas says its missing files or is corrupted even though its not. (pretty sure) I can continue the install and then it tells me the kernel is not there and some other boot stuff wont install or are missing.

I have been searching forums to no avail and am in need of help badly!

I am also new to linux, but am pretty computer savy.

    Thanks

    Hi and Welcome !

From where did you download .iso images of Ubuntu? Try to burn images at lowest possible speed supported by your burner.

Try Alternate Installation CD of Ubuntu. It has Text Based installer and works fine with most of machines.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

I tried the alternate already. But I will try to write an alternate image at 2x speed and see if that helps.

And I have gotten the ISO's from ubuntu directly except for one which actually gave me the best results so far.

Thanks for the quick reply though

Is there any reason for installing 64bit OS only. There isn't much Performance difference in 32bit and 64bit versions. Go for 32 bit only unless you have 4GB or more RAM.

Have you tried same Installation CD in other machine?

I can continue the install and then it tells me the kernel is not there and some other boot stuff wont install or are missing.
Missing kernel error pops up coz of corrupt download or badly burned installation media only.

Alright but does the 64bit detract from anything cause i already made the cd! I found a thread in the ubuntu forum on another site where a lot of people (enough people to fill a 40 page thread) were having the same problem.

I just tried 7.10 amd64 and it seems to have booted fine. I will install and let you know how it goes. Is there anyway to update from inside ubuntu? noob here.

Fixed it. Had to switch some stuff in the BIOS
