[SOLVED] No Sound in Kubuntu 9.04

    Hi,
I just got Kubuntu 9.04, and ran into a problem that I've never had: no sound!
All of my other OS's are fine, and Kubuntu 8.10 had no problem...just 9.04. I don't think sound even worked for me on the LiveCD.

Yes, the volume is up. I also did "sudo apt-get install alsamixergui" and the volume was up there too. I also added "options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1 model=3stack" to " /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf" as other forum threads instructed.

    And "asoundconf list" returns this:
    Code:
    Names of available sound cards:
    Audigy2
    Bt878
As the above says, I have a Sound Blaster Audigy 2.
In the Multimedia settings area of KDE, it says that I have 3 devices:
    Audigy 2 ZS [SB0353] (rev. 4, serial: 0x10031102) (ADC Capture/Standard PCM Playback)
Audigy 2 ZS [SB0353] ADC Capture/Standard PCM Playback (side speakers)
    PulseAudio

I tested all 3 of the devices. The Audigy ones looked like they attempted to test something, but I didn't hear anything, and PulseAudio gives me an error saying that it doesn't work, and is falling back to the first SB Audigy 2 entry.

If you need any other info, just say so, and I'll see what I can do....

    Thanks in advance!

    cat /proc/asound/modules returns
    Code:
     0 snd_emu10k1
     1 snd_bt87x

How you gont through the official docummentation?

    try
    wget -O alsa-info.sh http://alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh && bash ./alsa-info.sh
It helps to detect most of the problems.

Here's the link to my config. I'm new to this side of Linux, so it's unintelligible to me...

Hopefully you understand the URL I have below....I'd post a hyperlink, but apparently I need 15 posts....You'll have to copy each part of it....Sorry for the inconvenience.

I cannot seem to find the ALSA server, but I installed the PulseAudio server through KPackageKit and sound still does not work.

Any idea where to find alsa-server? It's not showing up in KPackage, but I saw some RPMs online....Perhaps there are DEBs somewhere?

I have found that this is often due to the input level being set by default to 0. Bring up your sound mixer and look at the input level. If it is 0, or low, set it a bit higher. Also, you are probably best served by using the ALSA drivers, though since I have just recently installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my laption I haven't had the time to investigate this stuff in depth.

I decided to try all of the jacks on my computer. Turns out the headphones jack on the front works fine on all of my operating systems, so I'll go with that. I don't know why Kubuntu is having such a problem with the actual sound card.
Regardless, thanks for all of your help!
