    Can't Login thru X

    Thanks in Advance.

New to Linux, Just installed Mint 6 Felicia

I installed the OS and the GUI "X"??? was working just fine, I tried to get the thinkpad_acpi functionality working and then restarted. Now...

When the OS loads into the login page:

It trys to auto login, flashes to the command line upon failure, then repeats
If i enter my user name and password it resets and asks for username again
If i enter the wrong password it says that its incorrect
If i ctrl alt F1 I can login in just fine

I would really like to use the GUI, Please Help

Well, what did you do to "get the thinkpad_acpi" working? And I assume your system is an IBM or Lenovo Thinkpad? What model and what are some details about the hardware (CPU, RAM, video, etc).

Log in to the console with CTRL+ALT+F1.

Backup xorg.conf. (I think Mint still has one. The newer xserver doesn't always need one.)
    Code:
    sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak
    Regenerate xorg.conf
    Code:
    sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
    Restart GDM.
    Code:
    sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart
Cross fingers and hope. Post back if it fails.

So, you are sorted out now? Or are there still issues you need to resolve (aren't there always)?
