installing ubuntu problem
i've recently got a new laptop with vista and wanted to dual-boot Ubuntu 9.04 with it. i downloaded ubuntu 9.04.iso file i used infrarecorder to burn the iso to a cd and successfuly did so. i then restarted my laptop and it boots up into the ubuntu screen where i can choose to install check the disk for errors run ubuntu with out making changes. i've tried all 3 options but after i would try 1 option it would just lock up and not do anything. i've let it sit for a few minutes and nothing happend i have my drive partitioned and all that so i dont know why its doing this.

You might have burned it to fast maybe. Also did the md5sum check out. Instead of infrarecorder may I suggest you try IMAGEBURN and use burn a image option and adjust the burn speed to as low as you can go. Good Luck.
Also if you're laptop has USB Boot capability you can load your downloaded iso to it and make it bootable using UNETBOOTINLinux Registered User # 475019

Hi and Welcome !
As rokytnji suggested already, try to reburn .iso image of Ubuntu at lowest possible speed supported by your CD Burner.
It could be Graphics Card problem too. Post your Machine's specs here. Which Graphics Card do you have?It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

It's starting to sound like your download might be corrupted. That is why I asked about the md5sum check.

I haven't forgot about you. If Your Burner (CDRW drive) is Ok then just wait for Devils Casper to get back with you on your Video Card. He is much better at Video than I am.

Have you tried same Ubuntu LiveCD in other machine? LiveCD won't change anything in machine by default. If it works in other machine, download Alternate Installation CD of Ubuntu.
