NTLDR error after formatting
Recently ran into trouble when I tried to format my PC.
Was dual booting with Windows XP (on 1st primary partition) and Ubuntu (on 2nd primary partition). Also had a third primary partition where i stored all my documents.
I formatted the two OS partitions and tried to install Windows XP sp3. The computer rebooted as soon as I tried to enter bios if i rebooted. However, this did not happen if I powered down.
Didn't get very far using XP install CD. So decided to use Kubuntu live CD. Worked!! and installed Kubuntu. When i restarted noticed that the GRUB screen was the same as before I formatted.
How do I restore this so I can install windows XP again.
Was wondering if there are any 'workflow' orientated photo editing programs (similar to adobe lightroom or photoshop bridge). This is the major factor keeping me from swithing fully to a linux os.

You have formatted the partiton not the MBR of the disk, so grub stage1 would stay there where it was, it should not show the old menu which is stage 2. but dont delete the MBR, by doing so you will loose the 3rd partition.
When you installed Kubuntu you have to reinstall grub on MBR of disk.
You have to install Windows before you install Linux on it. because windows cannot handle the grub entry in MBR and it will abort the setup in most cases.
BTW, I think Adobe Lightroom 2 is a photo management software like Picasa or F-Spot, but i guess there could be less edition options.
but my own experience is GiMP With Plugins > Photoshop
so theres no problem with image editing.
The 2nd way is Wine. Lightroom 1 can be run on Wine. Im downloading Lightroom 2 trail will tell you if it works.

To reinstall XP you have to clean your Master Boot Record first. To do that you have to boot from your XP install CD and choose recovery mode. Go into repair and run fixmbr. Now you don't have Grub anymore, but don't worry.
Restart your machine and install XP on your first primary partition. Once finished with that you can do a fresh install of (K)Ubuntu on your second partition. The installer should autodetect your existing home partition (at least if you created your third partition as such in the first place). The installer will also create a new Grub for you.
On the next reboot your machine should be as new. Let us know.

I think syntax for fixmbr is something like this
fixmbr \Device\HardDisk0

You might need to use Supergrub to restore Windows boot code to the MBR before the Windows install CD will work.
