    Welcome to the Linux world!
The good news about your problem, is that it has been discussed many times before.
I'd suggest doing a search of this forum with the keywords of "no sound".
You will see a few threads that will describe basic commands (no matter what Ubtunu level)
If you follow some of the advice you see in these threads, there is a very good chance you will resolve your problem.
So, navigate to: Linux Forums > Your Distro > Ubuntu Help , and up on the top right corner, there will be a search link, The next dialog will allow your keyword entry of "no sound".
If you explore these and still have a problem, return here with details of what you tried.
For those folks out there that are much more experienced than me will likely recognize what steps may be missing in your analysis.

    good luck.
