    Ubuntu - Application un-install problem

    Hi guys
I'm newish to Linux and using Ubuntu.
I have two PCs this older one that I have now converted to all Linux. Its working great except for one thing. I wanted to install a program to drive my TV card and unfortunately didn't do enough research first and installed what I now know as a bundled pair called “Myth TV” which has a frontend and a backend. Anyhow it wasn't what I wanted so I un-installed it using the add/remove applications assistant. It appears to have un-installed the backend but not the frontend. It remains in the menu system and in-fact runs but complains it can't find the backend. Conclution is it has un-installed the backend but not the frontend. The add/remove applications assistant reckons its not there and so all it wants to do is install it again.

    Any ideas would be appreciated

    Cheers majestictwo

    Hi and Welcome !

Have you tried to un-install it using Synaptic Package Manager?
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Thanks Devils Casper - I feel an idiot now because I have just worked it out. I have just been using the add/remove tab in the menu because it worked before but know I've found the Synaptic Package Manager and the light has come on. Appreciate your reply - Loving this stuff won't be long before my laptop falls to Ubuntu.

    Well Done !
Ubuntu Sources has 16000+ packages and you can manage ( install/remove/update ) those using Synaptic Package Manager. Click on Reload button to refresh package list. Search any package and mark it for installation.

    Add/Remove
lists most common and popular packages only. Synaptic lists all available packages.
