Microphone doesn't work with Skype
I cannot get the microphone working with Skype. My PC is Intel based machine using Soundblaster Live audio card. I'm using Ubuntu 8.10.

Check volume control..on gnome panel.
Right click it.
Open volume control.
Check your input/capture is no muted.
(Must confirm first about the problem)

have you tried your mic in any other application like gnome audio recorder?

you should install pulse audio tools

What kind of mic are you using? I have a bluetooth headset w/ mic that works just fine with Ubuntu 9.04 on my Dell D630 laptop.
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
Just remember, Semper Gumbi - always be flexible!

There is normal sound recorder utility. in gnome,
If your sound output is working there is less likely to have problem in your mic configuration. and alsa/oss setup.
