[SOLVED] Problem installing nvidia driver/running .run file

I'm currently running Ubuntu Studio 9.04, 64-bit. When I tried installing the nvidia driver the first time, the installer would run fine, but every time it would tell me that it could not build the kernel module, and the install would fail (I have to compile the kernel every time).

I did not have this problem in regular Ubuntu 9.04. Can anyone offer me any solutions to these problems?

    Hi and Welcome !

Does Administrative Menu has Hardware Drivers option? Have you tried to install Nvidia driver through that?
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Can you be more specific? Is your network set up, and can you download other files using Synpatic or Add/Remove programs?

I can be found either 40 miles west of Chicago, or in a galaxy far, far away.

Did you get the 64-bit nVidia driver, or the 32-bit version? You are trying to install this in a 64-bit OS, so you need the 64-bit version, otherwise the kernel module will not likely get built OK.

Yes, I did download the 64-bit version.

I solved the problem, though. Hardware Drivers utility finally came through after I let the download sit and initialize for an unholy amount of time. No more problems, and Quake Wars runs even better than it did on windows! Wow.
