No GRUB Menu
Hi,
I've installed Ubuntu alongside Windows XP. XP is the first partition, with Ubuntu on the second. However, when I boot up my laptop, no menu appears, it just automatically loads XP.
I've tried swapping the boot sequence in the BIOS as i was told to, but to no avail.
Any ideas on how I can fix this problem?
Thank you.

Welcome to the forums!
It sounds like GRUB didn't get written to the MBR.
You should be able to use the SuperGRUB LiveCD to handle that if you want. It can probably be done with the Ubuntu LiveCD as well, but someone else will have to give instructions for that.oz

Here you go:

I think that link should help you to use your Ubuntu LiveCD to get GRUB installed properly.oz

Thanks for the reply. I'll give that a go tomorrow. I'll ask another question if i may.
After using Windows all of my life, how easy it is to remember commands in Linux?
I want to be a competent Linux user but the commands are quite offputting!

It's pretty easy to remember the most important commands.
Check here for lots of good information on getting started using the command line under Linux:
LinuxCommand.org: Learn the Linux command line. Write shell scripts.oz
