    ubuntu easypeasy 8.10

Today was a first time ever I installed Linux. I tried to find Add/Remove function, but it was not there. I made sure that it is checked in the Main Menu settings, still its not there and I cannot find it.

    Also few general questions:

What do I need to do to install Windows Applications on Linux? I heard about Wine, but I did not find any good Newbie guide. Does anyone know a good one?

Also, I tried to run exe installation file, but it gave me weird error (null) that I've seen first time ever in my life.

    Go to
Preferences>Sessions>and Uncheck the box that is checked for Ubiquity. That will stop the log in, I mean install screen, from coming up when you reboot. It is a documented bug.

You won't have Add/Remove programs but you do have Synaptic Package Manager in Administration. That is your Add/Remove programs tool.

As far as Wine. I didn't install it in Easy Peasy because the Wife dual boots with Windows XP. Maybe somebody else will chime in on it,

Just saw your other thread. Yeah I used Ext3 but the way I installed mine I just used Gparted in Easy Peasy to shrink the Windows Partition by 40 gigs and I left it unallocated. Means I didn't format it. During the Easy Peasy Install I selected

Guided. Install on Largest Unallocated Partition.

That way all formatting and dividing up of Linux partitions were taken care of automatically by easy peasy.

1 Last Quick Note. Any Applications Like Firefox or Evolution or Songbird you can right click and it will ask if you wish to add to Favorites, (the heart shaped icon]. This places whatever application you wish into the favorites section. You can think of that as your Desktop, though desktop is actually a separate file in Home. I installed Sea Monkey Browser as that is my wifes favorite browser and then added the start icon for it in favorites. That way she doesn't have to go to internet to connect.

It is in ,I think, because the wife took her laptop to work,in either accesories or administration. Look for Terminal and put it in your favorites. You'll be using it from time to time. All Commands are done in Terminal.
