New install and I broke it already

I have a new install of Jaunty that I setup using WUBI. I started it up this morning... fixed some settings in mythtv, installed openSSH-server, installed WINE and played around with Gnucash. I restarted it and now it gets to the ubuntu progress bar but when it completes the screen goes blank. The monitor acts like it's asleep and there's no processor activity. Following this, I messed around in recovery mode and now the display is just garbled... I still get no login prompt and no sound for the login prompt.

I've SSH'd into it, so I know it's not really frozen, but after getting a list of recent updates I have no clue where to start. I need someone to look at the list at the included dpkg.log file and point me in the right direction.

The things I tampered with today before restarting (that I can remember) included:

    1) disabled desktop effects
    2) Set mythtv backend to accept remote connections
    3) Installed WINE
    4) Installed openSSH-server
    5) Played with GnuCash (it was already installed)
    6) Installed the updates I was presented (see my dpkg.log a couple posts down)

What graphics card do you have? First thing I would try is to make sure you have the right driver installed for your graphics card and reconfigure the xorg.conf file.

If you can ssh into it, you can do so from the command line with sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

I have an EAH3450 (HD3450)... I was having problems with it until I disabled desktop effects. I already reconfigured xorg.conf... it just seemed to ask alot of questions about my keyboard.
The graphics card driver was working previously...
