    upgrading to Jaunty 9.04

I would like to upgrade my ubuntu to 9.04, but get a warning saying that my graphics card is no longer supported. Its a fglrx driver for an ati card.
I only use the computer for fairly basic stuff (internet, photos mainly), would it be a mistake to proceed? or is there an easy enough way to use the existing fglrx support after upgrading??

If you don't use your computer for 3D games or graphics rendering, the lack of a 3D-accelerated driver shouldn't really affect you much. Most cards on the market will run just fine using the default, generic VESA driver.

ATI dropped support in its newest driver for some of its graphics cards. Normally, you would be able to continue using the older working driver, but in this case, the older driver is not compatible with the new xserver used in 9.04.

But, if you're not looking to run all the special effects and compiz stuff (wobbly windows and the cube et al) the open source xf86-video-ati driver should work fine. I think it does do 3D acceleration for some cards, even, so you may still get the eye candy. I would download the Live CD of 9.04 and see how it runs.

You can read an article about the problems.

Thanks for the advice, i think I'll hold tight until there is a fix for it, this is working just fine for now.
