Hello new here so be gentle also a windows user . At a push could be guided to use terminal eek
I have just upgraded ubuntu 9.04 (jaunty) and now I have no sound.
I have looked at sound preferences and everything looks fine. I have tried all devices listed but still no sound.
My hardware HP Pavillion HDX9120 20" laptop, Intel dual core T7500 2.200Ghz, 2x160GB HDD ,4GB RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT, sound devices HDA Intel (Alsa mixer), HDA ATI HDMI (Alsa mixer), Sigmatel STAC9271D (OSS Mixer), Playback: HDA Intel _ STAC92xx Analog (PulseAdio Mixer), Capture: Monitor of HDA Intel _ STAC92xx Analog (PulseAdio Mixer),Capture HDA Intel _ STAC92xx Analog (PulseAdio Mixer. All levels are 100%.

Any help would be kindly received.

I google 'no sound jaunty hda intel stac92' (without the quotes) and found a lot of results. Don't know if there's a fix yet (but ubuntu, unlike Windows, updates frequently and these updates usually fix these bugs).
EDIT - try to mute the headphones.
