    Trouble installing updates

When I try to install software updates by clicking on the red arrow "update" button, I get a final result stating the following:

    Error authenticating some packages

It was not possible to authenticate some packages. This may be a transient network problem. You may want to try again later. See below for a list of unauthenticated packages.

    initscripts
    libavc1394-0
    libtiff4
    sysv-rc
    sysvinit-utils

    .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .............

I've tried this a few times...same result over the past 10 days. What is this newbie doing wrong?
