    Evolution without Mono ?

    Hello,

I installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix on my Asus Eeepc. Worlks great.

However it seems that Evolution contains a Mono plugin.
Regarding the, IMHO, unclear status of Mono presence because of its origin and backstage in Linux, I would like to remove all Mono packages from my Ubuntu.

    Is this possible ?
Can I have an Evolution without Mono plugins ?

    Thanks.
    Bye,
    Bruno

No-Evolution depends on mono. However you can use Thunderbird instead.

    Fine for Thunderbird.
But how to remove Mono ?
And unfortunatley there is apparently no way....
Gnome is based on ...arghhh... Mono which is everywhere as a 'dpkg -l | grep -i mono' shows.

The only solution seems to definitely leave Gnome and move to KDE or other manager free from Mono. Correct ?

    Bye,

The Open Sourcerer How to remove Mono (M$) from Ubuntu Hardy Heron has a post on removing mono.
Mononono has a bit on checking(forcing) conflicts.
I use XFCE on my laptop, and am thinking of switching to KDE on my desktop for the same reasons.I haven't tried removing mono from gnome yet to see what it does, but will try it in the future when I have a bit more time, after saving my data.
There are several different projects writing apps without using mono that can be used if gnome will function without it.

Thanks for URL about removing mono.
Question : you mentioned XFCE. Is it also related with Gnome or mono ? I thought only Gnome implements mono components.

    Thanks for attention.

No-I use XFCE for 2 reasons. I like the wireless setup-wicd and there is no mono in it. It is also lighter & faster than KDE or Gnome. Here is information about apps that use mono: :Mono Applications - Boycott Novell
