    Trying to Create bootable USB

I am attempting to install Xubuntu and create a USB that contains a bootable Linux system. I am having problems.
I directed the download to drive H:\

After following the directions on pendrivelinux.com/usb-xubuntu-904-persistent-instal-windows/. The following files are in H:\temp\XU904p
7-Zip (folder), sysl (folder), XU904 (folder), casper-rw (file), COPYING (file), makeboot (batch file), text (Microsoft Office Configuration file)

Following the direction as if the torrent was used I found Xubuntu-9.04-desktop-i386.iso on mirror.anl.gov copying it into folder XU904. then proceeded as it the .iso file came from torrent. I got a screen asking for the target drive, which was F:
This created a folder sysl which has a folder win32. Folder win32 has nothing in it.

The target drive is a 2GB SanDISK. I expected the target drive to have about 1.5 GB used, but only 300 plus MB are used.
Since I could not make the target drive bootable (no admin authority) I could not run the drive.

It appears to me I have not been successful. Any thoughts.

Just burn the ISO to a CD
    Boot up in Live.
    Plugin your PenDrive.
Format it if needed. make partition active.
Open Terminal and type command $ sudo usb-creator
Select CDRom, Persistant space. and create a live usb drive.
    Never make any misteaks.

From any Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Xubuntu system you can create a Live-USB from System->Administration.
Or you can use Unetbootin which runs on Windows and Linux and can create a Live-USB from any ISO file(not only Ubuntu)!

Unetbootin is also a good tool, but so far it doesnt create a persistant storage.

I havent tried Xubuntu 9.04 yet. may be usb-creator is not added in XFCE edition
but still you can install it.
While in Live session just download the deb file and install it.
You can download it here ---> Ubuntu -- Package Download Selection -- usb-creator_0.1.16_all.deb
The package is also in repositories. You can install it using
    sudo apt-get install usb-creator
    Never make any misteaks.

    Hi b2bwild,
I am new to linux environment. This is what i did:
    1. Place the CD (linux image) and boot the system and ran the linux from the CD.
    2. I took your path to resolve this. The download page gave me an option to edit souces.list file .
    3. I could not change the file permission and save sources.list file.
    4. I could download the image on desktop.
    5. I ran your comand "sduo ... " from the terminal and it created the usb-creator
    6. I restart the system and removed CD.
    7. While booting I hit F9 key to change the booting order and choose to boot from USB.
    8. I got the same error " Invalid or damage bootable partition.

    Please advice.
    Thanks

You should open sources.list file as root.
    to do that.
    use "sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list"
then change the line, save close with ctrl+x

Instead of adding repo to sources.list.
    You can download .deb here

    Double click and install it.
Then open USB Creator from you menu or command.
    Never make any misteaks.

    Hi b2bwild,
    I did the followings:
    1. I formated my flash drive.
    2. I followed your step in downloading deb. It has downloaded on my linux destop.
    3. I could not open with the GDebi Package installer as it reports dependency problem.
    4. I install with Synaptic Package manager (usb-creator).
    5. I do not see any file system in my flash drive.
    Something is not clear.
As an alternative path I even ran the command but I do not see any files in my flash drive, and getting Invalid or damaged partition message.

    Please let me know.
