    Enabling wireless internet on Ubuntu

    Hey i'm a bit new to linux. I have another computer with Ubuntu installed on it. I went on terminal and checked my network connections and it said that my wireless connection was disabled. How do I enable it? Thanks in advance

    go to system-prefereneces-network tools and click on wireless ..................atleast thats how its on 9.04 it could help if u posted ur version of ubuntu.......

    You can click on the NetworkManager icon beside the system tray (clock). That should list available networks.

    If there is an icon prompting you to install restricted drivers you may need to do this too - just make sure you have a wired connection while you run that update.

    if you want you can use command line
    ifconfig wlan0 up
    Dual Booting Ubuntu 10.04, Windows 7

    It says the wireless is activated...but when I went into Terminal it said that the wireless was disabled and I don't kno0w how to enable it. I'm definately gonna try your suggestion kmitnick...and thanks for the help guys. I really appreciate it

    edit: i tried ifconfig wlan0 up and it told me permission denied. i'm pretty sure i'm on the main account. is there one i'm missing?

    try to use sudo ifconfig wlan0 up

    when using sudo?
    make sure you type it correctly and please post the full output here
