which firewall do you use?
I have been using something called GUFW, but I am thinking FIRESTARTER might be better. I am basing that on the fact that Firestarter seems a lot more configurable. I don't like that Fstarter sets itself up in the task bar at the bottom AND the notification area. But, that's really of no consequence, as the most important thing is which one is better as a firewall.
Also I read that Fstarter is only used to configure the firewall and so it runs in the background without having an icon anywhere on the desktop. This would be good. So, all things being equal, I would prefer Fstarter...The BIG question is "is it as efficient as a firewall?"
So, which do you use and why?
Thanks in advance.

I also use UFW, as front end to IPTables. It just works.

I use the Firewall built into my router, and lots of common sense.

I've got two routers, both with firewall, and my own system running a firewall, for I don't trust my parents computer. I'm afraid it is just one big security hole, so I do my best, but my parents won't let me wipe that system. The day will come when the system takes more than 10 minutes to start Word they'll let me.
Ow wait, it already does! Well, let's wait until it takes 20 minutes, maybe then, they will let me wipe the system.

Or their bank account information is stolen ... that will change minds quick

I use my router firewall ... default allow all outgoing and block all incomming ... defaults are reasonable (but I had to experiment with a couple of extra ones
). I also use guarddog ... gui setup - but it just writes the rules that you run at startup.
I don't use Ubuntu much ... and have not tried ufw at all
in my defence Ubuntu has never been my main distro.
If I were a proper system admin rather than just a home user I would probably learn iptables ... as a home user I'll stick with the gui until I have problems and then its off to read the man pages
