    first before that when you installed it told you to choose which one to download,

    there are two for linux I believe one for kernel 2.4.x and 2.6.x
    they both for i386 and x86_64

    to make sure which one to download open the gnome-terminal and type
    Code:
    uname -r
    and see you kernel mine is:2.6.27-14-generic
    so i download 2.6.x in the testdisk website

    ok went to the link and under libraries forund 2.6 it gave me the apt-get install build-essential e2fslibs-dev libncurses5-dev libncursesw5-dev libntfs-dev libjpeg62-dev libreiserfs0.3-dev uuid-dev zlib1g-dev which I assume are the libraries and alas again I am lost at what to do

    ok these libs must be on your box so run the command
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install build-essential e2fslibs-dev libncurses5-dev libncursesw5-dev libntfs-dev libjpeg62-dev libreiserfs0.3-dev uuid-dev zlib1g-dev
    but I think that libreiserfs0.3-dev is wrong lib name if it didn't work for you try libreiser4-dev

    btw before doing anything try to access testdisk-6.11.3 then
