A-Z help installing / extracting file
New guy that would be me trying to get testdisk working. I have this in my desktop folder testdisk-6.11.3. I need this to work (now you know things didn't go well) to recover photos on a usb external drive. Did I mention I was VERY new at Linux. Baby steps here guys I need the basics of extraction and install to get this up and running. I couldn't find any instructions in the readme file either.
Thanks all

ok first of all you need to extract your file
to extract a file you can do it manually by right clicking it and choose extract
or using command line
press Alt+F2 then type gnome-terminal and a command screen will pop up.
if the file's extension is tar.gz then use this command
if it is tar.bz2Code:tar xvfz testdisk-6.11.3.tar.gz
if it is other wise please tell me,Code:tar xvfj testdisk-6.11.3.tar.bz2
then you can access it with the cd command
then post the output ofCode:cd testdisk-6.11.3
waiting for your replyCode:ls -al
