It did the trick and Google Earth is now installed

When it was done installing,
it offered me the opportunity to run the program, which I did,
and the Google Earth splash screen came up,
followed by a blackout screen
and then Bang! back to log-in screen
where I had to put in my username and password.

Haven't tried it agin since then,
but at least I see GE listed under Applications,
so at least I've achieved that!

Now for the Java Runtime bit?

Again..thanks for your help.
