[SOLVED] Can I get support for Ubuntu 7.10 ?

    Hello,

I have a Dell Inspiron 1100 with 2.80 GHz Intel Celeron Processor, 512 MB RAM, Latest BIOS update (A32), 64MB Video Card.
I have installed Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) and it is working fine, I was satisfied with it until I tried to install more software!
I could get I direct Internet connection and used the Synaptic Package Manager to install some software, but I found that the repository for this version is no longer available (as it is no more supported since April).
What should I do to get software?? Should I upgrade for a newer version (Hardy, for example), Or I can simply use the repositories for Hardy to install software on my Gutsy??

And If I have to install newer version, can my laptop handle newer versions??

You can find the system requirements for Ubuntu here:

Your machine will probably run fine with a later version. Should you think it is too slow, you can always try Xubuntu, or Fluxbuntu.

If you really want to keep using Gutsy, you can use the archived repositories at Index of /ubuntu

Just change the url's in /etc/apt/sources.list to that and you're good to go.

Note that there won't be any updates though, as the release is unsupported, you will be able to install software though.
