any one using this ? I don't hear much about it, but seems like they are still supporting it. I decided to make my desktop into a backup video editor, and think I'll try this out maybe this weekend.

It's nothing but normal Ubuntu, Ubuntu Studio installs a collection of packages by default...and have its unique art work.
You can install Ubuntu Studio components on Ubuntu or Its variants.
Or you can individually install those video editing software packages using apt.

hmmmm. thanks I was afraid that was what it was, plus I saw they use kino, which I thought the kino project was scrapped last year ? I need to strip down my existing ubuntu and just give cinelerra a try

Yep just install the apps you want. There is no speed benefit that I have seen yet!

UbuntuStudio uses a low-latency realtime (rt) kernel. This is more for audio mixing, than for video. It too can be installed on a regular Ubuntu install
