    Whereis xorg.conf

Hello. I am currently running Ubuntu 9.04

I am tweaking my drivers and need to access the xorg.conf file. Problem is, Ubuntu 9.04 seems to have removed the file.

Does anyone know how I recover the xorg.conf file for editing (or create a new file)?

Are you sure don't have /etc/X11/xorg.conf file (It's path for Fedora ...I guess it should be same for ubuntu too)
I'm not sure about creating it manually ... Do you have Ubuntu Desktop version or Server version - I assume server won't come with X

Well, if it is not in /etc/X11/xorg.conf I guess you could boot up your live cd and copy and paste its /etc/X11/xorg.conf over into your installed Ubuntu 9.04 file system on you hardrive, or rename /etc/X11 to ,
/etc/X11 old, and then reboot and ubuntu should write up a new /etc/X11 file for ya with a new /etc/X11/xorg.conf but before doing that I would wait and see if other members will confirm what I have said as I have never done that and I don't want you to lose your screen over this post.

It seems strange though that you have a visible working desktop without that file. So I would double check that it is actually missing instead of you being able not to locate it. I usually install "catfish" which is in your synaptic package manager when I wish to search for files. It is a very good search tool for file and app finding. Try it out first would be my best advice. Good Luck

    Solved: Whereis xorg.conf

    Thanks for the help.

I found it by doing a file search for "xorg". It's there I just missed it
