    [SOLVED] empty xorg.conf in ubuntu

    Hi,
I've Ubuntu (amd64) installed on my laptop. I'm bit surprised as my xorg.conf file is empty yet I'm posting this from GUI. Before you may point out that it may be a typo issue like x11 or Xll let me say I'm typing properly. (I found some thread with same subject but the issue there was of typo). I also searched my system for any other xorg.conf file. There is none. This is the first question.

Second, is that in Debian, I do have entry in xorg.conf but it is very obscure; not as clear as the ones created by Xorg -configure or xorgconfig commands. Because of this I'm not able bit confused in editing sync rates/video drivers etc...

Btw, what program produces Debian (or Ubuntu) xorg.conf? Is that the 'dexconf'

xorg.conf file is empty by default in latest versions of most of distros. hal detects and configure most of hardware and doesn't need any conf files.

If you have Nvidia or ATI card you have to add Video Card section in xorg.conf file.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
