    [SOLVED] Downloading then installing

Ok, so I'm not exactly sure how to phrase this but here goes.
I just made the move to Kubuntu from Vista because well I was pissed at how crappy it was. Now the first thing i wanted to install was flash player to watch youtube.
I can download it (used .deb since I have jaunty) and it goes into kpackagekit and goes smoothly until it says "finished" then it just brings up an error. Am I doing something wrong or is it a problem with the machine?

It won't even let me press details.
just the finished screen then unknown error directly above then sorry an error occurred above.

I did try saving it to my home directory and inputting this command:
    Code:
    sudo tar -jxvf firefox-3.0.11.tar.bz2.part -C /home

    And got this response:
    Code:
    bzip2: Compressed file ends unexpectedly;
perhaps it is corrupted? *Possible* reason follows.
    bzip2: Inappropriate ioctl for device
Input file = (stdin), output file = (stdout)

It is possible that the compressed file(s) have become corrupted.
You can use the -tvv option to test integrity of such files.

You can use the `bzip2recover' program to attempt to recover
data from undamaged sections of corrupted files.

    tar: Unexpected EOF in archive
    tar: Unexpected EOF in archive
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

    try this in a terminal:
    Code:
    cat /var/log/messages | tail
Hopefully the error will be there

Well I found a way to get flash installed, however I also tried to download and install opera and it gave me this message: Wrong architecture 'i386'

That means I need to find a 64 bit architecture one right?
I only went to opera because I couldn't figure out how to install firefox. I have the .tar.gz downloaded for firefox already.
I'd like help with whichever is easier to fix.

Nevermind! I did some other research and found out how to actually use the package manager.
    Thanks anyway!
