Screensaver freeze
Hey all,
I have Ubuntu 9.04 on my machine. I have enabled one of the many built-in screensavers that Ubuntu offers. Whenever I want to return to my machine while the screensaver is on, I usually shake my mouse. However, at certain times, shaking the mouse will freeze the computer, as in, the screensaver freezes up and will not return me to my desktop. Pressing any button on the keyboard does nothing and I have to manually power it down and restart it. I would say this happens about 50% of the time. The other 50% of the time, the screensaver gladly goes away and returns me to my desktop.
Can anyone help me in this matter as to what is causing this intermittent freezing and how I can mediate it?
Thank you

It sounds like it is going into hibernation or "sleep" mode. Open this from the top menu.
System-->Preferences-->Power Management
Change the option to put computer to sleep when inactive. I slide it to the right, for "Never". You can also set the display sleep settings. See if that fixes it. i always have trouble getting it out of sleep mode, but pressing the power button should do it.Paul
Please do not send Private Messages to me with requests for help. I will not reply.

Actually, a few of the screensavers freeze the computer in 9.04. So badly that I cannot get to the ttys, or restart the X server. I think the sysrq keys can work.
My solution was to change to blank screensaver.

I've had this problem, also, with some of the screensavers. I had my power management set to never, also. I could get back to the desktop, but had to wait a minute.
